   Detroit Central earned its first girls basketball victory of the season on Monday, Jan. 6, beating Detroit Public School League West Division rival Detroit Henry Ford 22-10 in a defensive battle at Ford’s Gregory Kelser Gymnasium.

   Central improved to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in conference with the victory. Henry Ford fell to 0-4/0-2.

   The Blazers led the Trojans 9-3 at halftime.

   Elshanti Workman led the Blazers with eight points. Shania Knight scored seven points. Sanay Smith added three points and Katrice Giles and Unique Theus both had two points.

   Central hosts Division 1 No. 10-ranked Detroit Renaissance (6-1/2-0) on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Detroit Cody 73, Detroit Western International 20: Raven Price scored 34 and Aiyanna Tanksley had 23 points and 15 rebounds for Cody (7-1 overall, 2-0 league). Zyona Talley scored 11 for Western (0-2/0-2).

Detroit Collegiate Preparatory at Northwestern 46, Detroit West Side Academy for Information Technology 33: Dayania Johnson scored 32 for Collegiate Prep (3-5, 2-1). Malori Saddler scored 11 for West Side (1-2, 0-2).

 

Detroit Mumford 56, Detroit Communication & Media Arts 25: The Mustangs improved to 3-1/3-0. The Pharaohs move to 3-5/1-2.

 

East League

Detroit Cass Technical 78, Detroit Denby 26: Precious Fields had 25 points and 12 rebounds, Kennedy Tidwell had 18 points, Taylor Williams scored 13, and Desiree Jackson had 11 points and eight assists for the Technicians (6-1/3-0). The Tars move to 4-3/1-1.

Detroit Southeastern 51, Detroit Osborn 48: Serena Allen led Southeastern (4-3/3-0) with 29 points. Aniya Owens scored 11 and Kendall Williams added eight points and 10 rebounds. Nariah Harris scored 16 and Damiya Crawford 14 for Osborn (0-4/0-3).

Detroit East English Village Preparatory Academy 61, Detroit International Academy for Young Women 2: Nicole Allen had 16 points and 10 steals, Mykala Smith had 16 points and eight steals, Takya Maholmes scored 10 points, and Nijah Waller had 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists for East English (1-3/1-1). International falls to 0-2/0-2.

Detroit Martin Luther King Jr. 70, Detroit Davis Aerospace Technical at Golightly 11: Monica Williams scored 15, Jaden Alexander 14 and Alexis Brown 10 for King (4-0/3-0). Davis falls to 0-3/0-3.
