   Detroit Mumford concluded its Detroit Public School League West Division regular season with a convincing 65-47 girls basketball win over Detroit Cody on Monday, Jan. 28, at Mumford.

   Cody came into the game undefeated in league play and winners of 11 straight.

   The Comets led early in the game, but the Mustangs took charge late in the first quarter to go ahead 11-9 to start the second quarter. The Mustangs expanded the lead to 30-18 at halftime. The Comets couldn’t get closer than 12 in the second half.

 

 

 

 

   Sequoia Jackson led the Mustangs with 24 points. Keara Wilson scored 20 in the victory. Uyshana Ford added 12 points in the win. Jequoia Jackson added five points.

   Mumford finishes its league regular season at 7-1. Cody is now 6-1 in league play, with a Thursday game against first-place Detroit Renaissance (7-0). Mumford’s only league loss came against Renaissance on Jan. 13 (90-52).

   The PSL girls basketball playoffs begin next week.

   Mumford is the defending PSL champion, wining the title for the first time last year over Renaissance.
