Division 2 No. 2-ranked Detroit Edison Public School Academy Early College of Excellence pounded Catholic High School League power Bloomfield Hills Marian 60-32 on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Edison.

It was Edison’s (7-2) first game against a Michigan opponent since beating Parma Western on the road on Jan. 25 and only its ninth game of the season, due to numerous cancellations and few Michigan teams wanting to put the Pioneers on their schedules. Four of Edison's opponents have been from out of state.

The win over Marian was Edison’s 73rd straight victory against Michigan teams, dating to 2018.

Miss Basketball favorite Ruby Whitehorn (Clemson) had 23 points, eight rebounds and five steals. DePaul-bound senior Madisen Wardell had 19 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Na'Kiya Bonner added nine points, nine assists, and three steals.

Over the weekend, Edison was forced to travel to play two Illinois powers in the Chicago area after not finding state teams willing to compete.

Edison edged Bolingbrook (Ill.) 47-46 on Friday, Feb. 4, and fell to Joliet (Ill.) West 75-68 on Saturday, Feb. 5. Blingbrook fell to 18-5 with the loss and West improved to 22-2 with the win as junior Lisa Thompson scored 36 points.

The slate doesn’t get any easier for the Pioneers, as they travel to Division 1 No. 1 West Bloomfield (13-1) on Tuesday, Feb. 15, Division 3 No. 1 Ypsilanti Arbor Preparatory (13-1) on Thursday, Feb. 17, and hosts Division 1 No. 9 Farmington Hills Mercy (12-2) on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
