   Division 2 No. 1-ranked Detroit Edison Public School Academy cruised to a 69-41 victory over Division 1 No. 1-ranked West Bloomfield on Tuesday, March 9, at West Bloomfield.

   Edison raced to a 24-6 lead after the first quarter and led 37-17 at halftime. The Pioneers’ lead never dropped below 20 in the second half.

   Miss Basketball frontrunner senior Damiya Hagemann (Michigan State) led Edison with 26 points, including four three-pointers.

   Junior Ruby Whitehorn returned to the court after missing two games due to a concussion, scoring 24 points.

  Junior Madisen Wardell added eight points in the victory as eight players scored for the Pioneers.

   Edison defeated West Bloomfield earlier in the season (62-53 on Feb. 23).

   Edison will continue its challenging schedule Thursday, March 11, when it hosts Division 3 No. 3 Ypsilanti Arbor Preparatory before traveling to Division 1 No. 2 East Grand Rapids on Saturday, March 13.

   Edison had won three straight Michigan High School Athletic Association championships (Division 2 in 2019 and Class C titles in 2018 and 2017). The Pioneers were undefeated (23-0), ranked No. 1, and had reached the Region 14 championship in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to the pandemic. They have not lost a game since 2018.
