Division 2 No. 1-ranked Detroit Edison Public School Academy Early College of Excellence powered past Catholic High School League power Dearborn Divine Child 67-42 in its Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2, Region 14 semifinal on Tuesday, March 10, at Carleton Airport.

   Clemson-bound and Miss Basketball finalist Gabrielle Elliott scored 22 points to lead Edison. Damiya Hagman scored 18 points in the win. Ruby Whitehorn scored 10 points and Madisen Wardell added seven points.

   Edison advanced to face Flat Rock (21-3) in the regional final on Thursday, March 12, at Carleton Airport at 7 p.m.

    Flat Rock beat Dearborn Heights Annapolis 65-40 in its semifinal.

season. The Pioneers won the Division 2 championship last season and the Class C championship in 2017 and 2018 under head coach Monique Brown. A fourth title would equal Flint Northern’s mark of four straight Class A titles in 1978-81.

   The Pioneers have impressive wins this season over Division 1 No. 1 East Lansing (65-48), Division 1 No. 3 and Detroit Public School League champion Detroit Renaissance (54-52), Division 4 No. 1 Adrian Lenawee Christian (67-62), Division 1 No. 8 and Catholic High School League champion Farmington Hills Mercy (59-41), as well as four out-of-state powers.

   Edison dominated Detroit University Preparatory 70-32 to earn the MHSAA District 56 championship on Friday, March 6.
