Wixom St. Catherine of Siena Academy’s basketball team has moved into unchartered territory -- advancing to its first Michigan High School Athletic Association regional championship game.

   St. Catherine dominated Warren Lincoln 58-31 in a Division 2, Region 15 semifinal on Tuesday, March 10, at Livonia Clarenceville.

   Junior Claire McClorey led the Stars with 11 points. Freshman Hailey Baumann, junior Lauren Arena and senior Lizzy Turek each scored eight points in the victory.

   Baumann opened the game with a three-pointer from the corner and the Stars raced to a 22-11 lead after one quarter.

  An intense defensive effort held Lincoln to only one point as the Stars extended their lead to 33-12 at halftime.

   St. Catherine (16-7) advances to face Harper Woods Chandler Park (18-6) in the regional final on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Clarenceville. Chandler Park beat Detroit Cody 86-24 in its semifinal.

   St. Catherine beat Redford Union 53-13 on Friday, March 6, to earn its second district championship in program history. Junior Maeve Burke led the team with nine points against Union. Baumann scored six points and junior Krystal Shango added five points.
